Textile Tasters

Each year, NCEATA holds a day we call Textile Tasters. We invite the public and members to visit and watch demonstrations of different techniques and arts. Then it’s over to you to have a go. It’s a great opportunity to learn something new!

This year we added Trading Tables so that our  members could have the opportunity to sell their own creative art pieces. This proved to be popular with both buyers and sellers and another Trading Table is being planned for November 21, just in time for Christmas gift buying.

This year there were plenty of opportunities to try various new techniques.

Wendy Anderson demonstrated crocheting with cotton and Narelle Sheahan demonstrated tassel making.

The ever popular Sashiko stitching with Paige Barlow and felt making with Ann Harper and Marion Carroll gave participants more hands-on opportunities.

Shirley Bjornsson bringing back the art of Tatting.

Tracy McNicoll showing Block Printing, produced many colorful fabric pieces.

Kim Anderson and Jenny Hopkins are our experienced Smocker members and they happily shared their skills on the day.

Sincere thanks to all members who attended, demonstrated, brought afternoon tea, purchased items, took photos, sold from the Trading Tables, helped with set up and pack down and organized behind  the scenes. I’m sure we will be back to do all again next year.

Our next Extended Workshop- Blackwork on Aida cloth is Saturday July 11. $80. members, $100.non-members. 9.30-3.30 Request a place at  secretary@nceata.org if you would like to be included.
