September 2025

Hi,
I don’t know about you but my home seems to be constantly damp. I’ve noticed mould growing in places I would never of thought mould could grow. This is led to increased house cleaning. Not my favourite idea or activity so I’m looking forward to the activities of NCEATA this coming month. Activities are a little bit different in that they, probably, have something you already know as the base; it doesn’t take long to pick up the ideas concerned; it may be trying to move you along a path that will help you interpret some of our themes or examine your current practice. Activities are free or kit cost only.

Tara Mann’s cloth book workshop that was to be held in August will be held next year, and we will hope there is no rain. I’d like to thank Wendy Scott for her workshop on vessels. I was unable to attend but have heard great reports. It seems that everybody that participated really got in the mood and many items were produced either at the meeting or soon thereafter.

Kate, Merrie and Ann have made me very welcome as a team member. It’s different being President and Newsletter editor than it was being Newsletter Editor or Librarian. Please know that you can talk to any one of us to help you with an issue or idea concerning NCEATA. Remember, talking to other members or looking in our fabulous library may help you achieve your goals in relation to textile art.

We have two vacancies in the extended October workshop with Cathy Jack Coupland: Cactus Flowers on 25 October. If you would like to participate please let Kate know and she will point you in the right direction to be part of the day.

At the September meetings voting for the themes for 2027 and 2028 will take place. A summary list of possibilities will be presented and everyone will get a chance to vote.

At the last committee meeting discussions were had about our remaining market for 2025. Anne Dixon has volunteered to transport as she has a Ute that is available. Thank you, Anne. The position of market coordinator for 2026 and beyond needs to be decided if NCEATA is to continue participating in markets. If you are considering this position please understand that the use of a van or Ute is not necessary. It was convenient when Susanne Boulton was the coordinator that she had a van. In previous times, items were spread amongst those who are coming on the day to help set up and to do the selling. This can certainly occur in the future, too. We have a willing team who will support the coordinator fully.

Another position that remains vacant is that of the Craft Alive Co-ordinator, while there are plenty of helpers one contact person is needed for organisation and coordination. Ask Carolyn or a Committee member to tell you what is involved.

We have several events remaining this year. Our last 2025 exhibition Stitch-In is on Tuesday 16th September 10am-12pm. Come along with some hand work and enjoy a stitch and chat at Charlestown Library.

The construction of our new NCEATA website is progressing well. Merrie How met with Jezweb, prior to our August Saturday meeting, discussing issues the sub-committee raised along with archiving and having the membership form online. Jezweb is doing a mock-up and then we will go through it. Administrators to be Kate Highland and Tracy McNicoll.

We have quite a few new members. To help them and current members we are asking that name tags be worn each meeting. PLEASE WEAR YOUR NAME TAG OR WRITE OUT, AND WEAR A STICK-ON ONE FROM THE SIGN-IN TABLE EACH MEETING.

Looking forward to regular sunshine,
Rhonda Porter, President
