Hoping everyone survived the wild winds and rains, and was able to check on loved ones living in the northern areas where the cyclone hovered over the past weeks.
We welcome to our group, Rosalie Crispin, Cara Glover, Chris Howe and Alexandra Bcjun, as well as a few extras trying out our group last Saturday for the cyanotype printing workshop, so efficiently run by Rhonda Porter and hosted by Judi Nikoleski. It was such a Buzz! to be involved, as we saw so much variety in our results. The sun, although making it such a hot day, worked to great effect on our papers and fabric pieces.
Wilma Simmons showed us another variation of ‘Blue by You’ Monday, March 3, so many members have completed both pieces for the Craft Alive display, whose event is to be held from Thursday, 8 – Saturday, 10 May, at Broadmeadow Racecourse Hall, 100 Darling St, Broadmeadow. Carolyn Clausen will need these as soon as you have finished. Please see Carolyn if you are able to be at the event to help promote NCEATA.
We had a brainstorm session the first meeting in March and produced ideas if anyone was a little apprehensive about what they can produce for the next exhibition, ‘Out of the Blue’. This information is in the display folder on the entry table each meeting. A few members have brought along beginnings and final artworks for us to see. The Expressions of Interest forms were due with payment to Treasurer, Merrie at the Saturday, March 15, meeting. Thank you to all who attended to this and I need to catch up with a couple of you. We look forward to another wonderful display at the Charlestown Library. Thank you to Wendy Anderson and Roberta Hodgson for their donations which can be borrowed as part of the library accessioning format.
Congratulations go to Ann-Maree Kelly, Judi Nikoleski, Ruth Spence and Tara Mann who all won prizes at Shows around the Newcastle area: amazing work all, especially Ann-Maree who picked up the Contemporary Art Prize!
The Newcastle Art Gallery is offering those who are able to mass produce saleable items for the clients at its shop. Secretary Kate and I met Jess at the Seniors Week Opening Day at McDonald Jones stadium last week. Please get in touch with Kate for more details. Loved being there to see the reactions to our works in progress and completed works, such as Narelle Sheahan’s books of finished handkerchief and serviette-backed seasons works, which brought people in to appreciate; most couldn’t resist handling those wonderful textures!
Enjoy your time creating!
