Welcome to our second blog post. I am still playing catch up so here is a quick round up of March and April, both busy months with lots happening on the NCEATA calendar.
At the Monday meeting in March Anne Dean Pijpers lead us through the versatility of chain stitch and started us off on a group project with next years ‘Connections’ theme in mind.
After taking us through some of the variations, we selected a linen handkerchief to work on. There was a time limit set before we handed our piece on and continued to work on another handkerchief.
As you can see from the samples, many different approaches were taken and I look forward to seeing how they progress as we continue to work on these throughout the year.
March also saw our first extended workshop with Robin Ihnen.
I was unable to get there myself and I thank Rhonda for sharing these images with us.
Looking at the results, everyone had a wonderful day under the careful guidance of Robin. Each collar shows such individuality and the enjoyment of creating is evident on everyone’s face.
With the colder months on the way, I’m hoping we all get to see some of these being worn by those that attended.
The Saturday meeting was very well attended and Narelle Sheahan gave us a demonstration of Kawandi Quilting.
Narelle had some beautiful samples of her work and her presentation was excellent covering all aspects of this technique. Everyone soon became immersed in their own piece of quilting using a variety of fabrics and thread to produce truly individual pieces.
This has been one of very few projects I have finished this year and if you have a finished piece, email a pic and I will add them to a gallery for the blog.
Saturday’s meeting was the big sale day from Judy’s studio. As the saying goes, many hands make light work and thanks to all those involved, the day went without a hitch and was a huge success with very little left at the end of the day.
There are many members who purchased something on the day and Im sure will remember Judy’s incredible talent as they create new projects with their treasures.
After the sale, a huge effort was made to put together the slow stitch kits for Craft Alive. It was a big day and I think we all felt it by 4pm. The day truly demonstrated the community spirit of all the NCEATA members.
I am sure you will agree, it has been a busy start to the NCEATA year. I will do my upmost to keep up with monthly posts from now on. Don’t forget to leave a comment below, let us know what you would like to see in future posts. We would love to see some content from our members too.
