FEELING INSPIRED - 27/5 Ponderosa Parade Warriewood, Sydney. Phone 02 9599 6624. They do now I believe have a website. I find them possibly the cheapest place in Sydney for semi-precious stones, Chinese crystals, a variety of beads, findings, display items, cheap tools, and goodness knows what else. In recent years they have slashed their prices further.

BEAD HOUSE & CASTINGS - 4-6 Stokes Ave., Alexandria, Sydney. 0293193335. (Ron Chudy) Not as cheap as Feeling Inspired, but much cheaper than many. Sell Beadalon Colourcraft colour-coated copper wire in colours other than silver. The other colours I have used over 5 years and seem ok, gold, magenta, black, copper, blue (purple in some gauges, off-white in some too), green, brown and red. Beadalon coated copper wire is much cheaper (about the same price per reel but nearly double the length) than Artistic Wire, which does in fact not seem to tarnish. It is reputed to be better quality than Beadalon and comes in many more colours. Beadalon comes in gauges 16 to 28, Artistic Wire in 18 to 28. Beadhouse and Castings is like a large warehouse, lots of findings, chains, threading material, castings, also beads, Swarovski crystals, semiprecious stones and beads of varying quality, good range of Czech beads.

Artistic wire is sold at many bead shops, including BEAD & CRYSTAL HEAVEN at Toukley. If buying Artistic wire, buy all you need for a project, as it is very likely that if you go back to get some more, it will be a totally different colour - much bigger variation than we expect from a new batch of dyed wool.

A&E METAL MERCHANTS 89 York St Sydney, 0285684200, sell artistic wire, real silver and gold wire, metal sheets, good quality findings, chains etc. Just across from them on the same floor, is the House of Jewellery, sells display items, craft books, etc etc. Neither of these places is open weekends.

We get our feathers here - absolutely stunning but expensive - great for making a one off piece that you will love. We have found them to be very helpful and be warned - once you see the feathers, they are so hard to resist and it is difficult to choose only one ot two from their extensive range of types and colours. This is by far our favourite place to get slivers/tops and silk. All their products are hand dyed and they have gorgeous colours. We have found them to be extremely helpful and their website has lots of ideas and photos for inspiration. Nancy and her staff are happy to give advice on colour combinations and projects. A lot of overseas websites also sell Treetops products so it not just us who think that they are good.

Great place to get wool bats which make felting large pieces so easy. They have just added an alpaca/merino batt to their range which is beautiful and soft. They also have wool tops and make some mixed breed wools that give greater strength where the project needs it. They are a bit cheaper than Treetops Colour Harmonies. Pat will send you a sample of wools for about $10-15. Good place to get needle felting supplies.

So much nicer than using Lux Flakes. It smells beautiful and feels good on your hands. Especially good if you have dermatitis/eczema as they have an unscented and a goats milk soap as well. This is a cottage industry product and they do not use any animal products in their soaps.
